Eva Molnar

Eva Molnar is the Director of the Transport Division of the UNECE in Geneva, a post she has held since 2007. Before that she spent 8 years as the Sector Manager for Transport in The World Bank, Europe and Central Asia Region and was for several years a guest lecturer at the Budapest University of Economics and Technical Sciences.

Prior to this she worked as an infrastructure and management consultant and for more than a decade she held several senior positions in the Hungarian Transport Ministry. During this time she was the CEO of Kapos Volan, a road transport company in Hungary, as well as a member of the supervisory boards of transport enterprises, including the Austro- Hungarian railways, Raberbahn.

An economist by training, Eva Molnar has a long track record in Trade and Transport Facilitation. The World Bank’s first investment program in Facilitation which covered several countries in South-east Europe was prepared, appraised and implemented under her supervision.

Prof. Jeff Kenworthy

Dr. Jeff KenworthyCurtin University Sustainability Policy Institute

Dr Jeff Kenworthy is Professor in Sustainable Cities in the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP) at Curtin University in Perth and Guest Professor at Goethe University. Prof. Kenworthy teaches courses and supervises postgraduate research students in the area of urban sustainability. He has over 30 years experience in urban transport and land use policy with over 200 publications in the field and has lectured in 25 countries and 68 cities throughout the world.

He is particularly noted for his international comparisons of cities around the theme of reducing automobile dependence. His most recent research involves updating of urban transport data in some 50 cities around the world, examining the prospects for electro-mobility in Germany and the application of the global cities data to a study of mobility cultures in megacities funded by BMW and in collaboration with TU München. His most recent book is entitled An Introduction to Sustainable Transportation: Policy, Planning and Implementation (Schiller, Bruun and Kenworthy, 2010).

Dr. Lawrence D. Burns

Dr. Lawrence Burns completed a distinguished career with General Motors in 2009 having served as VP Research & Development and Strategic Planning since 1998 overseeing GM's advanced technology, innovation and corporate strategy. Prior to that, he held leadership positions in GM including industrial engineering, quality, production control, business planning and product program management.

Today he is Professor, Engineering Practice, Industrial and Operations Engineering, at the University of Michigan and an advisor to numerous organisations including Google, Hess Corporation and VantagePoint Capital Partners. He serves as a Director of the Roundtable on Sustainable Mobility at The Earth Institute, Columbia University.

A leading advocate for diversified transportation energy, connected vehicles and autonomous driving, Dr. Burns is co-author of Reinventing the Automobile: Personal Urban Mobility for the 21st Century (MIT Press, January, 2010). He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from UC, Berkeley, an M.S. in Engineering / Public Policy from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the GM Institute. He was elected a Member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2011.

Ann Flemer

Ann Flemer was named Deputy Executive Director, Policy at MTC, the metropolitan planning organisation for the San Francisco Bay Area, in 2009. She oversees strategic financial planning and management of federal, state and regional transit, highways, roadways and other modes; as well as state and federal legislative advocacy, public affairs and community outreach, long range planning, land use, air quality and climate change and freight issues.

Since 2001, she served as MTC’s Deputy Executive Director, Operations, responsible for the agency’s Traveler Coordination and Information and Highway and Arterial Operations sections. Key projects under her direction include the TransLink® smart card universal fare collection system, the Take Transit regional online transit trip planning system and the regional rideshare programme.

She has worked in public transportation planning, policy and finance at MTC since 1982. She serves on the Board of ITS America and the Transportation Research Board Committee on Transportation Management and Operations. She received her bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies from UCLA and her master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley.

Prof. Luis Antonio Lindau

Prof. Luis Antonio LindauEMBARQ Brasil

Prof. Luis Antonio Lindau Ph.D. is the President and Director of EMBARQ Brasil. He led the development of the EMBARQ BRT Simulator that has already been applied to evaluate the operations and potential of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems around the world.

He was a founder of ANPET, the Brazilian Association for Research and Education in Transportation and set up the Laboratory for Transportation Systems of the School of Engineering at UFRGS, one of Brazil's top universities, where he teaches, coordinates research projects and supervises masters and doctorate students in transportation engineering. He has coordinated the work of numerous transit simulation project teams throughout Brazil, including in São Paulo, Porto Alegre and São Leopoldo.

Since 2006, he has been member of the Committee on Transportation in the Developing Countries (ABE90) of the Transportation Research Board. From 2003-2006 he was a member of the Director Council of the Brazilian Association for Public Transportation. Prof. Lindau took post-doctorate leave at University College London, earned his Ph.D. in Transportation from University of Southampton, and holds a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from UFRGS, Brazil.

Prof. Noboru Harata

Noboru Harata is Professor of Urban Transport Planning at the School of Engineering, University of Tokyo. He is a key advisor to the Japanese Government on Transport Policy and Infrastructure Planning and a director of the Japan Society of Traffic Engineering (JSTE) and Japan Research Center for Transport Policy (JRCTP).

He began his academic career with prizes from both the Japan Society of Civil Engineering (JSCE) and City Planning Institute of Japan (CPIJ) before extending his work from Travel Behavior Analysis to Sustainable Transport Policy. He has constructed a Sustainable Transport Model for Tokyo Metropolitan Area and discussed the usefulness of Ring Roads and Road Pricing with induced demand. Recently, he has been involved in Tokyo 2050 projects under the umbrella of GCOE Project; “Center for Sustainable Urban Regeneration (cSUR)”.

He is a member of the Metropolitan Transport Planning committee in Tokyo and Sendai, and the Survey Design Committee of National Traffic Census. He is the author of numerous publications including influential Japanese texts on Urban Transport Planning, Travel Demand Management and Transport-based “Machizukuri”.

Dr. Andreas Kopp

Dr. Andreas Kopp is Lead Transport Economist in the Energy, Transport and Water Department at The World Bank in Washington, where his focus areas are: transport and energy use, transport policy and planning, transport and macroeconomic development. He is also Adjunct Professor for Transport Economics at the Technical University, Munich.

Before joining The World Bank he was Chief Economist at the OECD/European Conference of Ministers of Transport, and Head of the OECD/ECMT Centre for Transport Research. He has held professorships at the George Mason University, Arlington, Virginia (Transport Economics) and the Technical University of Dresden, Faculty for Transportation Science (Economics). Dr. Kopp has also served as Coordinator of the EU Research Network on Migration and Growth at the Hamburg Institute for International Economics.

He earned his Masters in Economics from the University of Göttingen, and Ph. D. in Development Economics from the European University Institute and University of Giessen before going on to postdoctoral studies in International Economics at the University of Kiel and in Economic Theory at UC Berkeley.

Robin Chase

Robin Chase is founder and CEO of Buzzcar, a service that brings together car owners and drivers in a carsharing marketplace. Buzzcar.fr empowers individuals to take control of their mobility, without looking to governments or big businesses for solutions. Robin is also founder and former CEO of Zipcar, the largest carsharing company in the world, and GoLoco, an online ridesharing community.

She is on the Board of the World Resources Institute, the National Advisory Council for Innovation & Entrepreneurship for the US Department of Commerce, and the Intelligent Transportations Systems Program Advisory Committee for the US Department of Transportation. She also served on the Massachusetts Governor’s Transportation Transition Working Group, and Boston Mayor’s Wireless Task Force.

Robin lectures widely, has been frequently featured in the major media, and has received many awards in the areas of innovation, design, and environment, including Time 100 Most Influential People, Fast Company Fast 50 Innovators, and BusinessWeek Top 10 Designers. Robin graduated from Wellesley College and MIT's Sloan School of Management, and was a Harvard University Loeb Fellow.

Kalman Gyimesi

Kalman Gyimesi is the Automotive and Industrial Practice Leader within the IBM Institute for Business Value. He has over 20 years of experience in industry and consulting, during which time he has led the implementation of business solutions to difficult problems.

He has a background in business strategy, supply chain management and advanced analytics, and has worked on diagnostic and re-engineering projects with both automotive OEMs and suppliers.

Mr. Gyimesi holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from SUNY at Buffalo and a Masters in Business Administration from Syracuse University.

Patrick Martinoli

Patrick Martinoli is Innovation Program Manager at leading mobile communications company, Orange.

He spent 7 years working for a French military centre where he was responsible for the testing of complete engines for airplanes (Mirage, Rafale) and specific engine components including the fan for the Airbus reactor.

He then moved to Information Technology, working firstly as an editor in a media company and then for France Telecom. Throughout his career he has remained active in the automotive domain, writing technical articles for magazines and web sites on topics as diverse as competition, the tire industry and electric vehicle technology.

In 2009 he joined the “Car Services” team, a specific initiative dedicated by Orange to prepare the activities of a Telco operator in the automotive ecosystem. In particular, Mr. Martinoli is responsible for coordinating Orange’s interactions with makers of EVs and HEVs and he has launched several projects with carmakers, component manufacturers and mobility operators world-wide.

Peter Madden

Peter Madden is the Chief Executive of Forum for the Future, a non-profit organisation working globally with business and government to create a sustainable future. He leads Forum’s 75 staff helping to create – and then implement – the strategies and innovations needed to prosper in a low-carbon world. He is an expert on issues ranging from futures and innovation, to sustainable business and smart cities.

Previously, he worked as Head of Policy at the Environment Agency, as Ministerial Adviser to the British Government, as Director of Green Alliance and as Head of Policy at Christian Aid. He is currently a Board member of the London Sustainability Exchange and the South West Regional Development Agency, and he sits on the Advisory Council for the Centre for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability.
